Shipping Transactions
The notarial profession has long been entwined with the shipping industry given the importance of London as an international trading hub and port. Traditionally the role included assisting with ship protests and bills of lading but as these have decreased over time, the role of the notary has adapted to become instrumental in other aspects of the shipping industry. Notaries primarily assist with the certification of bills of sale, mortgages and registration forms in sale & purchase transactions as well as certifying any underlying corporate documents. With the ever-increasing sums of money involved in building and buying vessels, to the legal technicalities of which jurisdiction to have the vessels registered in, notaries are on hand to ensure all the legal documentation is correct, legal formalities are in place and thereby, provide assurance to all parties involved.

Where clients are based abroad, Saville Notaries can be appointed as attorneys-in-fact to sign the required documentation on the date of closing. We can also act as a vessel representative to receive general documentation on behalf of a client in order to register the vessel with the UK Ship Registry.
